海洋覆蓋地球高達70%的表面面積，是全球人重要的糧食來源。據估計，全球有3.3億人的主要依賴海鮮攝取蛋白質。

僅於2018年，全球野生漁獲高達九千九百萬噸，相當於全球人口總體重的三倍。

據聯合國估計，全球94%漁業已被過度或充分捕撈（即若再增加捕魚壓力，魚類族群健康或會開始走下坡）。作為亞洲最主要的海鮮消耗地區，香港人是時候重新反思我們對海鮮的需求對環境的影響。

適逢世界海洋日（6月8日），香港環保海鮮聯盟召集了30多間本港酒店、餐廳、以至膳食供應商在6月6 日至6月12日期間提供環保海鮮餐單。環保海鮮即是以對環境影響較少的的捕魚或養殖方法所生產出來的海鮮。

是次活動中，參與的大廚們將會採用具環保標籤或認證的環保海鮮，包括海洋管理委員會、水產養殖委員會、最佳水產養殖規範、全球優良農業規範等。

參與餐廳表示，希望透過是次活動向大眾宣揚環保海鮮的重要性，以及如何能在今天作出正確的海鮮選擇，令我們將來仍然能夠品嘗海鮮的滋味。
